Get that chin out of your bosom, Orioles fans, the catcher o' the future has arrived! Okay, now, let me calm your beating hearts. He's unlikely to mash upon debut; maybe by July, or even late June, but probably not now. Even if he goes 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI, curb that enthusiasm. Wieters is in all likelihood a star, but the problem is, he's a catcher. Catchers are a valuable metal in today's game, to be sure, but the injury risk for a catcher is high. It's rough on the back, knees and shoulders to catch 130 games a year, and that's exactly what the Orioles want from Wieters. But, I'll be honest, I'm a Yankee fan, and I think we all know the equation "Wieters > Cervelli". |
