Ratchet ’em Up 1B Carlos Delgado, NYM – The Mets’ first baseman is finally starting to heat up, after suffering through wrist and elbow injuries for much of the season. If he’s getting going, and it certainly looks like he is, then Delgado is a legit home run threat for the foreseeable future. 1B Richie Sexson, SEA – He’s a notoriously slow starter who has a power bat. That’s something we can all enjoy, once he gets going. SP Roger Clemens, NYY – The Rocket makes his major league debut against the no-hit Chicago White Sox. This is definitely a game to watch, as Clemens should produce along Jeremy Bonderman lines along the way. SP Roy Halladay, TOR – Halladay came back with a vengeance on Thursday, outdueling Mark Buerhle and the Chicago White Sox. This came after his return from the removal of his appendix, which was originally supposed to sideline him for 4-6 weeks, but only set him back 18 games. RP Brad Hennessey, SF – Now that Benitez is gone, the Giants have seemingly handed the job over to Hennessey. He should be a decent bet for the remainder of the year to be a decent closer. RP Matt Capps – Pirates manager Jim Tracy announced that Capps will be taking over the closer’s role, and he definitely has had some success this season: 1.09 WHIP and 24 Ks in 29.1 innings.
Ratchet ’em Down 1B Mark Teixeira, TEX – He was finally starting to heat up, but Big Tex suffered a concussion on Friday. Sadly, this was the time for the Rangers that he was to raise his trade value. Now, it seems they’re stuck with him for a little while longer. 1B Jason Giambi, NYY – The Yankees are reporting Giambi is done for the next three weeks with foot troubles, but there are reports saying he’s done for the year. If you haven’t dropped him in your leagues just yet, I highly suggest that you do. 3B David Wright, NYM – The Mets’ third baseman has missed time with back spasms, and that’s not good for his fantasy owners. The back is a very important part of the body for hitters, and he even might be heading to the disabled list, though that’s unlikely at this point. SP Carlos Zambrano, CHC – As if the bad starts weren’t enough, Zambrano got into a fight with Cubs catcher Michael Barrett. The team has said both players will be disciplined, but after Zambrano’s outing on Friday, you gotta think his year as an effective pitcher is over, whether it is because of injury or overuse early in his career. RP Armando Benitez, FLA – Benitez was traded to the Marlins, with the Giants paying a huge portion of his remaining contract. Kevin Gregg has a Vulcan death grip on the closer’s job, so don’t expect Benitez, despite prior success closing in Miami, to take over anytime soon. RP Salomon Torres, PIT – Sadly, it was only a matter of time. The Pirates moved Torres from the closer’s role and have given it to youngster Matt Capps. Luckily for the Pirates, Torres is a very good setup man who could be collecting a lot of trade value. Have a fantasy baseball question?
