Projected Two Start Pitchers for this Week
You Make the Call:
Other Two Start Pitchers:
At the top three hitters parks
At the top three pitchers parks
Ratchet Them Up: Eric Gagne (RP, Brewers): Is expected back this week from his shoulder injury. He is not expected to regain the closer's role at this time. Hank Blalock (1B/3B, Rangers): Barring another injury or setback Blalock should return to the lineup next week. He is expected to take over at first. Erick Aybar (SS, Angels): is back from the DL. He is not a fantasy staple except in deep leagues. Joba Chamberlain (SP/RP, Yankees): Is beginning to look like a frontline starter. He had his best outing yet on Thursday and should get two starts this week. Mike Gonzalez (RP, Braves): Returned from the DL and is a candidate to take over the closer's role, however Gonzalez is returning from Tommy John surgery and might not be able to handle that, so he’s not a sure thing. Sidney Ponson (SP, Yankees): Ponson was signed to a minor league deal but odds are he’ll make some starts for this team and probably not too far down the road. If the offense is clicking he could get some wins, but he’s still not even a mid level fantasy option. Eric Byrnes (OF, Diamondbacks): Should return to the D’Backs lineup early next week. Fantasy owners like the Diamondbacks are eagerly awaiting his return. Josh Willingham (OF, Marlins): Is likely to return to the Fish next week. If he’s available in your league, grab him.
Clint Barmes (2B, Rockies): Is expected to return this week. Paul Lo Duca (C, Nationals): Was reactivated from the DL.
Ratchet Them Down: Chien-Ming Wang (SP, Yankees): Will miss at least six weeks, probably more with a ligament injury and muscle tear. It’s possible he’s done for the season. Jim Edmonds (OF, Cubs): Has an injured foot, but managed to go deep twice Saturday night. Milton Bradley (OF, Rangers): Has a sore quad which could limit his action and earn him a few days of rest next week. Or knowing him, it could result in a trip to the DL. Hideki Matsui (OF, Yankees): Has a sore knee which sidelined him for a few days and could take away from his power over the next few weeks. Homer Bailey (SP, Reds): Was sent down by the Reds due to struggles at the major league level. We’ll see him again in September. Coco Crisp (OF, Red Sox): Injured his hand on Wed. He could miss (even more) time next week. Kevin Kousmanoff (3B, Padres): Is battling a back injury and hasn’t played since the 15th. Brad Penny (SP, Dodgers): Was placed on the 15 day DL with a shoulder injury. Paul Konerko (1B/DH, White Sox): Was placed on the 15 day DL with a strained ribcage muscle. Bartolo Colon (SP, Red Sox): Was placed on the 15 day DL with a stiff lower back. Manny Ramirez (OF, Red Sox): Is feeling nagging pain from his hamstring and has been getting rested more than usual. Ian Kennedy (SP, Yankees): Was placed on the DL with a strained muscle in his rib cage. Curt Schilling (SP, Red Sox): Is done for the year and probably for his career after the rehab program he was working on for his shoulder failed. He’ll have surgery and make a decision about his career.
