It all seemed fine for the Brewers. Sure, they lost a tough first game. But with their ace, and arguably the best pitcher in the game going, it seemed destined that the Brewers would figure it out. Apparently, the Phillies had a different idea. The Phils stunned everyone by knocking CC out in just the fourth inning, while tacking five runs off the big man. The real madness began in the second inning, with a man on second. Brett Myers was at the plate with two outs. After whiffing at the firs two pitches, it seemed definite that CC would escape the jam. However, Myers drew an unforeseen walk, making CC pitch 10 pitches total. Jimmy Rollins would follow up by walking. And then it all came through for Shane Victorino. Behind on a 1-2 count, Vic drove a hanging curve into the seats. He raised his arms in the air while rounding the bases, with the Fans going nuts, waving their rally towels. This really put a “sock” in the game. The Brewers would manage just 2 runs in all, falling 5-2 to the Phillies. In both games, the Phils had one big inning which produced all their runs. Apparently, it does not matter. They have a commanding 2-0 series lead.
While a series is never over until it is over, it seems certain that the Phils will win this series. They face Jeff Suppan tomorrow night, who they rocked in early September, in the midst of the four game Phillie sweep. In all, this was a good night for the Phils. They are in position to advance to the NLCS for the first time since 1993. It is possible to win it all this year.
